Advice for Planning your Trip
France is a destination which offers everything you could ever want to experience in a holiday. There is the wonderful cuisine to experience, the allure of French fashion, the 2000 years of history, the inspiration of Art and Architecture, and so much more. One thing that I have learnt in helping travellers in France is that everyone has a different holiday!!
My first rule I would give is that you must give yourself time to experience the life around you. I encourage people to give themselves enough time in each place to really get to know the place they are staying in. I once had some travellers who were wanting to spend three days in Provence on their way to Italy, and I hard-talked them into staying in a village cottage for one week. It turned out that during their stay they were invited out on four out of seven nights by the locals - I was lucky they even made it back home!!!
The other important issue is to decide if you wish to base your holiday around hotels, bed and breakfast type establishments, or in rental homes. But as I say to all travellers, it is not just the hotels or homes that I am “selling” to you, it is the experiences that these places give you - there is a difference! Hotels and Bed and Breakfast type accommodation can give you a very personable experience, being able to share your experiences with your hosts, and often sharing their “homes”, whereas a rental home allows you not only to be able to cook your own meals, but to experience the local life a little more than if you were in a hotel. In many situations I actually encourage people to have a balance of all three - any chance to stay a little longer in France!!
