Alsace Walking Holidays
Difficulty: Terrain mostly flat. About 5 hours gentle walking per day. Tour for everyone!
Situated just to the south of Strasbourg, the Alsace vineyard extends along the slopes of the Vosges “mountains”, between 200 and 400 metres high, and covers more than 14 000 hectares. The vines in Alsace were introduced by the Romans: but it wasn’t until the Middle Ages, that these wines became renowned and amongst the most appreciated in Europe. The affects of the First and Second World Wars wars decimated the vineyards, but these have since been returned to their former grandeur, thanks to strenuous work and strict quality control procedures. During this walk, you will have plenty of oportunities to taste the different wines of this picturesque region. You will also discover medieval cities, flowered streets, Romanesque and Gothic churches, houses and cordial “weinstubs”. A fun hike, full of colours !
