Dordogne Bliss
Sleeps 6. 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms
The small village of Limeuil with its steep picturesque streets, well deserves its title as one of "Les Beaux Villages" of France. The houses with their ornate doorways and the walls with fortified gateways all indicate the historical importance of the village situated as it is at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vezere rivers - this was where the last battle of the One Hundred Year War was fought! This house is wonderfully located for exploring the Périgord Noir with all its historical treasures.
This house which I call "My Favourite in France" is situated right on the edge of this little village, which has a bar and restaurants, and has the prime site in all the Perigord Noir region (I think!) overlooking the river. The terrace in front of the house is right on the edge of the Dordogne River, and overplanted with vines creating this million dollar location!! You could sit here all day without tiring of the views in front of you!!
I refer to this house as being my Marcel Pagnol holiday home (see the film "La Gloire de Mon Père"!) in Perigord Noir. With its slightly rustic elegance it certainly enchants me! It is as if Marcel Pagnol has arrived for his three month summer vacation bringing with him his old family heirlooms and furniture for his time here!! The entrance which is from the courtyard behind the house leads into a large well appointed kitchen/breakfast room off which is a formal dining room and a sitting room. The sitting room leads across a gravel path to the stunning terrace referred to beside the river.
Upstairs off the large landing is the huge master-bedroom which has an ensuite bathroom with WC. This room has glorious views across the river. There are two further bedrooms, one with twin beds and the other with a double bed and an interconnected bedroom with a single bed. There is a second bathroom and WC on this floor.
To the rear of the house is a large walled garden with a 11m x 6m swimming pool, surrounded with many trees. The house is 7km from the market town of Le Bugue which has all services available. An ideal base for exploring the region. Wifi. TV.
To me this house is the ultimate, but I'm an old romantic! If you want charm, and character, then this place is for you!
